MODULE 2

EMBODIMENT: THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN DESIGN, BODY AND BRAIN

In this module we will delve into discussions of how the body influences the brain and how design influences the body. Topics such as embodiment, active design, the importance of postural change throughout the day and short and long-term effects of physical activities will be discussed. We will also discuss practical applications and strategies that can be implemented to create spaces that generate more opportunities for the body and encourage movement. Finally, we'll also talk about how the brain's spatial navigation system works and how the physical environment can make wayfinding easier (or harder).
By the end of the module, participants will gain a deep understanding of the brain-body relationship, understanding the negative effects of sedentary lifestyles and how to explore the potential of different types of environments to stimulate movement and the positive effects this can have on users.
